Should be able to copy/paste DBs in Nomad

If I have created a Replica in Nomad on my Laptop, of a DB on our Server, it allows me to work offline... just like in Notes.

With Notes, if I have a new employee, or an existing employee with a new device, I can simply copy any company DB onto a thumb or network drive and paste it on the new device. I don't have to run replication, which takes time and uses network bandwidth. I call this the "sneakernet technique".

However, in Nomad I have to create (read download) a Replica on each Laptop using the "File/Application/Make Available Offline" command.

I'm told that it is not currently possible to copy/paste like we could in Notes as there isn't a way to upload/copy/add a file from the operating system to the browser's sandbox file space for Nomad.

I can envision companies wanting to speed up the distribution of large DBs to new employees, or when new laptops are deployed using the sneakernet technique.

Does anyone else have that requirement/preference and know how to do it?

Thx in advance.

Thank you for your idea, we have considered this with the Product Management and Development teams and will not be taking this idea forward.

There is a technical reason why we can't achieve this, even though it's a good idea. The browser has a secure sandboxed environment that we have to work inside of. We are not able to give access to the 'file system' created for the Nomad session in terms of Copy and Paste so it's not possible to do what you've asked.

As a solution I would recommend investigating the Marvel Client from Panagenda as this allows you to define with databases appear on the workspace and is especially useful for new employees to get up to speed quickly.

Marking as 'No Plans to Implement' at the current time.

Please continue to vote and comment on this idea.

No idea how, but yes, it used to be we could avoid hours of replication to set up remote users. This would be very useful.

Definitely it's a practical requirement, as it speeds up some chores and some other benefits.
