Communication check function between A server and external SMTP server

I want the communication check function between the A server and the external relay server.
I want the function to check whether transmission / reception is normally performed with relay server without sending mail.

    How would you want to check this if the relay server is a 3rd party SMTP relay server? the only way to check if a mail can be sent successfully is to do it.
