The client is also blocked when you work in the local replica until the attachment has been uploaded to the mail document.
When working with a local replica, mails are sent in the background. Also the request to check file size before send exists in V10
There should also be a feature that checks the policy for maximum message size to prevent the mail router from bouncing large messages. These messages also get stored in the sent folder which most users forget about which takes up storage.
