Can we get rid of Notes ID for desktop Notes client.

Can we get rid of Notes ID for desktop Notes client.  Can we use  single sign on for both web browser and notes client. (GitHub authentication works fine for browser and desktop client or even command prompt)

For Notes client should require User Name (abbreviated ) and password and get authenticated from the Domino server. 

Most of the time we are not using document signing and encryption in our apps. 

However if the application requires document signing and (or) encryption, then Notes ID comes into the picture.

Resetting of ID password requires many manual tasks. (Remove password Digest in person documents, replication of person documents across the  domino servers)

    No, the Notes ID is a lot more than than a token. However we are working on eliminating the hassle that goes along with this.
