Welcome to the #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Also, make sure that the folder does not have any trailing whitespace! You can create a folder with a whitespace at the end which leads to stunning results if you then create a folder with the same name without a trainling whitespace. Users (and admins alike) will be surprised and this leads to strange results if you try to delete one of the folders. Disallowing trailing whitespace makes things run smoother!
We have the same problem and need a solution for that.
When will HCL implement this? This problem constantly annoys Domino administrators.
Are there any plans to implement this in the near future? We often have the problem that users use these characters and then there are problems with the folders.
I also hope for this to happen already.
And I would also like to ask to add not only charecters, but also names of already existing views and folders, like "Inbox" etc.
Supporting German users I had the issue more than once, that a user created a folder "Inbox". I am sure I don't have to explain what issues can occur from this.
I fully agree. I cannot believe that there is no input validation.
And there are problems with leading space characters. In some Notes releases, they are accepted and then later on cause corruption of folder structures, in other releases, leading space characters are just stripped off without warning.
There should be a consistent solution: either reject folder names with leading space characters, or allow them without stripping them off (and no corruptions of course).
In my career i never had a "user" who asked for this "interesting feature" with the bacslash (\). It is a "nerd" feature which only brings confusion and problems to "users". IBM has to step away from nerd features and provide simple and easy to understand UX and features to stay in business and keep Notes relevant.
Agree, special characters should be validated during input to avoid rare technical problems. But the backslash (\) is a feature. You can create directly a folder with a subfolder (e. g. 2018\January) and the main folder (2018) created this way containy only subfolders but no documents. This may confuse users, but is an interesting feature.
