What needs here to be reviewed? Have a look at other email-Clients (Thunderbird, Outlook, EM-Client etc.). They all have this filesharing capabilities.

You often have the need in sharing files with other persons which are to big to be delivered via email. They allready run or use some kind of filesharing-platform with all bells and whistles. Integrate with them. Connections is a technological and feature-ladden overkill for this purpose.

    Following options should be available:

    • if a single attached file is over a certain size, directly upload this file to the FS-Plattform

    • if a single attached files file type is considered as incompatible to security policies, directly upload this file to the FS-Platform

    • provide some Options to move multiple files to be attached in an archive (.zip) and upload this to the FS-Plattform

    • Provide the possibliity to create a directory on FS-Platform and share it with the receiver of the email, the user is actually composing.

    • Provide the possibility to select a file on the fs, share the file with the receiver and place the resulting link instead of attachment.

Design this as an open Interface for integrating seamlessly any FS-Platform with a REST-(alike)-API. Nextcloud (nr. 1 option for selfhosting onpremise), dropbox, one drive, google drive etc.

Provide logging and some kind of reporting e.g. the user has downloaded the attachment file from FS-Platform.
