Support for block (column) text selection using ALT + mouse drag or ALT+SHIFT+Arrow keys in Notes client

Currently, the Notes rich text editor only supports linear text selection.
It would be very helpful to support block/column text selection (similar to Notepad++),
where pressing ALT and dragging the mouse or ALT+SHIFT+arrow keys allows selecting a rectangular block of text.

Use cases:

  • Editing structured text or code snippets in rich text fields

  • Aligning and copying columns of text in tables or documents

  • Efficient multi-line editing (typing into all selected rows)

Compared with other editors:

  • Notepad++ has the best implementation (ALT+drag or ALT+SHIFT+arrows).

  • Visual Studio Code supports it via SHIFT+ALT+drag, but less intuitively.

  • MS Word technically supports ALT+drag, but implementation is clumsy.

Having the Notepad++-style block selection in Notes would significantly improve usability for power users.

    Notepad++ implementation is the gold standard, that’s what we need in Notes
