High resolution database icons can now be used starting with version 12.0.1 - for details see this : https://help.hcltechsw.com/dom_designer/12.0.0/basic/wn_template_with_larger_application_icons.html
Both SVG and bitmap shall be supported. Regarding bitmaps, there should be multiple dimensions supported and 24 bit color depth + alpha chanel (transaprency)

How bout FontAwesome https://fontawesome.com/ support for app and view icons?
If you redesign the icons, make them SVG. That way, we do not have any scaling and screen resolution issues in the future!
The icons should probably be at least 128x128, perhaps larger and scale down if needed.
