As of now, every time a user's name is changed, administrators are required to manually run the "name change" utility. This utility is crucial to ensure that historical data such as chat history, contact lists, and other associated user data remains correctly linked to the new username. This manual intervention creates an unnecessary administrative burden and potential for errors.
Please implement a feature that would make the "name change" utility obsolete by automaticaly handling user identity changes. For example, older versions of Sametime (e.g., Sametime 9.0.1) offered a "RESOLVE" mode within their name conversion utility. This mode allowed for a one-time migration of user IDs to a unique, constant attribute.
As described in Sametime 9.0.1 documentation:
...you can migrate user IDs to a unique ID, so you do not need to run the name change utility when a person's name changes in the directory. Having a constant user ID attribute eliminates the need to change a user ID when a name changes.
Sametime® provides RESOLVE mode, which lets you run the name conversion utility one time only, in a way that eliminates the need for additional conversions in the future. The Sametime Community server stores contact and privacy lists in the vpuserinfo.nsf file. RESOLVE mode migrates the VpUserInfo.nsf database, from the old user ID to the new user ID.
