In 12.0.2 FP1 we added a "New group chat" option when selecting the quick find field. We did recognize the only way to start a group chat was from an existing 1on1 chat, so this was needed. This isn't obvious, so we're considering where it could be added to improve awareness. One thought is from the menu on the right of this screen shot or add a button. In our use cases, Sametime users start new conversations from the quick find field, so we felt this was a good placement for the new group chat. Marking already exists, but open for feedback here.
