Programmatically resize photo quality for device-captured attachments

We need to add photos captured from the iPad camera to documents in a Domino app. But there will be hundreds of thousands of photos over the course of a year.  The native iPad camera will generate a 3MB file for each photo.  The database will be huge, which is a problem for replication, compact, and save & restore.  We don't need that much resolution.  Would like to be able to specify the photo quality to be captured, or else call a function to resize an already-attached photo.  You could say we want to store a large thumbnail of the captured image.

This is important, also being able to create a thumbnail of the image would be helpful

I don't think that the size is really a problem, but yes it increases with any new device as the resolution goes up.

My ideas how to handle this:

    1. The default can be the full size image

    2. IBM may offer an end-user selectable option to resize, like its offered today in apple mail.

    3. A Notes Policy could define a maximum resolution so that apps don't need to be smart

    4. An option for the app developer to resize before storing
