Welcome to the #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Hmm.
We've been around this mountain before. First it was MS Office 95, 97, and 2000. Then it was OpenOffice when IBM was for it. You can launch in your preferred editor and then save it back - but it was prone to user error.
Over time, what was left, was the ability to Open or Edit an attachment in a RFT, and then save it, and then, if the user noticed the dialog, they would see a dialog that says the document was edited outside Notes and would you like to save it back into the doc. It was okay if your work was sequential and there were no tangents. It does work in the constant work tangents of instant messaging that we have now, where we bounce all over and return to that document we started at 8:00 AM and now it's 9:27 AM. This would have to be more seamless, for the RFT attachment field, and whether or not a different doc would be allowed to inserted, instead.
This was the same thing we had to tighten up in Domino.Doc and then Quickr, because out-of-the-box, it allowed side documents to replace the main document, which violated chain-of-custody. So really, are we asking just to have a document sucked back into a doc when we save with whatever it's state was, are we using the external editor of choice and trying not to have some many situations of document clobberation (instead of collaboration), or are we really wanting a built in Doc editor that is basically, like an email form, where he are "locked" into whatever features, this likely open-source "borg-ified" editor has?
