Limited Support for the Domino on Docker in the ARM based Apple Silicon Devices (M1/M2)

Utilizing most development technologies requires a locally accessible Domino server, particularly for developing web applications and implementing Domino REST API. While Docker containers can fulfil our local server needs, Domino server only supports Intel x86 architecture.

However, it's worth noting that almost one-third of developers use Apple computers, and Apple has converted almost all PC products to Apple Silicon architecture (M1/M2). It's essential for the HCL Domino platform to expand its access to new developers, and limiting the supported environment for these developers is not the best approach.

It is clear that porting the Domino server code natively into ARM architecture would require significant time and resources. Therefore, a feasible alternative is to support the non-production environment on emulation, specifically with Rosetta technology. Running a Domino container with Rosetta over an Apple Silicon environment is currently possible but not officially supported.

To address this issue, HCL should consider providing limited support for using Docker Desktop and Domino containers emulated on Apple Silicon chips for developer and testing purposes.
