Database ACL Centralized Logging

As security requirements evolve, administrative change logs are becoming not only more important but a requirement in many organizations.

While databases maintain a log of ACL changes per database, that log is only for the last 20 changes while many organizations require 1 to 2 years of logs for administrative/configuration changes.

All database ACL changes should be logged to the catalog.nsf database as individual documents so that the database built-in archiving functionality can be used to configure the retention period of the ACL log entries.

as mentioned in the previous comment, a solution for tracking ACL changes already exists. Please use a partner product for this.

Check out SecurTrac from Extracomm. With Database Monitor, you can monitor any changes to the database ACL. Whether the change is made by a user, through replication, or as a background task, SecurTrac can capture the information of who made the change, when it was done, and what was modified.

You won't catch all ACL changes anyway:

    • ACL can be changed many times on another server or station and then replicated

    • ACL can be entered at once in the Administrator

    • the database may not be in the Catalog
