split up client and designer client so they appear as separate icons in Windows task bar

Because it is a pain.
NB the server is already a separate icon

This isn't new and this is since R5 when the designer and admin client was separated.
Before it was a single client. The icons are not the main problem.

The clients share the same data directory and are a single application with multiple processes working together.
It's not that simple! You could run multiple client instances today. One for the designer and one for the normal client.
But you would need multiple data directories.

The server and the client should not be installed on the server machine by the way.
That's not a production style environment. You can install a Notes client in a lab environment for testing.

A server is a separate install, with a different data directory, own process space and shared memory ...

But I see the general comment that the design client should be separated.
