The product line needs a brand identity

Once upon a time we could say Lotus and everyone knew exactly what you meant.

Today Microsoft has O365; Google has Gsuite; Salesforce has... Salesforce.

IBM had nothing or worse, they kept applying a new name to everything and just when it started to build recognition they changed it: Lotus, Social Software, Collaboration Software, SmartCloud (everything was labeled "SmartCloud" for awhile), Watson (everything was Watson-ized then Watson became this amorphous blob of who-knows-what.)

Now we have nothing.  The HCL brand is relatively unknown vs it's competition and the product line is your first pass on Software products.  Digital Solutions is NOT a brand.  We need the equivalent of O365 or Gsuite or... dare I say it...  Lotus.  You may not call it Lotus, but that is a brand that people will know and with V11 or V12, it could be the right combination.  Whatever you name it, it must be powerful, it must be uniquely searchable (like Lotus Notes always was) and it must be as memorable as all of those mentioned above.  Time to step into the ring and start marketing!

David, great post and glad to see it getting traction. We completely agree with you, and this is currently in the works — AND you'll likely start seeing requests hitting the market for quantitative/qualitative data gathering for how we evolve and move the brand identity and creative direction for our business forward. Additionally, I will be presenting in the coming months at all upcoming user groups about our marketing efforts, how we see our brand, how we want to engage with all of you, and our plans for the upcoming years. Please know that establishing a brand like Lotus Notes does not happen overnight, and it doesn't happen without an intimate knowledge of where we are today and where we're going. Very excited to have a dialog with you all about this at upcoming events and soon-to-be scheduled webcasts.

-Andy Bossley, Head of Marketing, HCL Digital Solutions.

Not sure who owns the Lotus name now, but HCL could do worse than bring back Lotus.  Even today, I still see advertisements for Lotus Notes developers and Lotus Domino administrators.
