Chaining Smart Upgrade kits - Smart Upgrade can be used to upgrade a series of different versions at one time with the same Desktop Policy, HCL should bring this feature back.

- During IBM period, there was a feature in Notes client called - Smart Upgrade can be used to upgrade a series of different versions at one time with same desktop policy.

Example: Upgrade Lotus Notes Client 7.0.2 to version 8.5.2FP2. [https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/uid/swg21438849 / "chaining Smart Upgrade kits"]

For reference:- Old IBM presentation:

https://render-prd-trops.events.ibm.com/support/pages/sites/default/files/support/swg/swgdocs.nsf/0/f7bb02b879a582d985257880002f8450/%24FILE/Smart%20Upgrade%20Openmic%2021%20Apr%202011.pdf

- But currently HCL doesn't support's this behaviour. Now the only possible way is to upgrade from base to base version (i.e) for eg., from v901 to v11.0.1 smartupgrade through chaining is possible, but as far as including fix pack. After upgrading first we have to ensure the setup v11.0.1 is OK, and then upgrade to FP1.

- HCL should plan to bring this feature back in Notes client.

This works for the english Notes client. We just upgraded them from 12.0.1FP1 to 12.0.2FP1 in one step. Unfortunately for the german, french and italian clients two steps are needed: 12.0.1FP1 to 12.0.2 and then to 12.0.2FP1.

Notes Auto Update AUT is not an alternative because it requires a dedicated Domino server.

Other customers also need this feature, there are more than ten thousands of notes client, need wait all these end users upgrade the notes client from R9.0.0 to R11.0.1,it will use a long time and block admin to push end users upgrade from R11.0.1 to R11.0.1FP5 in time.
