To have 100% compatibility between Notes and Outlook for custom repeat meeting modifications

When user wants to modify the repeat meetings sent to Outlook in custom way then there is some incompatibility issue due to fact that Outlook does not handle repeat sets in the iCalendar that are defined as RDATEs. Outlook only handles repeat sets defined as RRULEs. Notes Client allows repeat meetings upto 10 years as RDATEs while Outlook allows infinite repeat meetings and hence works only on RRULEs for infinite timeline. So there is an Enhancement Request that, Notes Client should also able to send the repeat meetings in RRULEs format so that it will be compatible for Outlook.

    Thomas,

I believe you are either badly mistaken, or you misunderstand the request. Your facile response (six months later) just adds fuel to users dissatisfaction and creates more ill will.

I'm sure you can understand that waiting SIX MONTHS for an answer like this is frustrating.

    1) As you can see above, the status of this request here on 8/27/21 is still open, "LIKELY TO IMPLEMENT". This is NOT FIXED.

    2) HCL's own documentation directly contradicts you. The 2009 RFC 5545 standard has NEVER been implemented, and the 'compatibility mode' documented in Hina Purohit's tech notes for 9.x and 10.x does not even fully implement the 2004 RFC 2445 standard.

I've attached Hina's document for you, in case you have not seen it.

Anyone using Notes can easily prove this to themselves by using the RFC 5545 compatibility checker tool (and learn more about the standard) at https://icalendar.org

Given that the original standard was co-written by Lotus and Microsoft in 1998, whereupon Lotus/IBM proceeded to IGNORE it, this mess is entirely in HCL's lap now.

Please note...this problem is not "between Notes and Outlook", it is between Notes and every other mail client on the planet.

Can we get a REAL answer please?

Out product is completely following the standard according to the RFC.

Dear HCL, this problem is now more than 20 years old. Here we are two-and-a-half years after the report above, and here at HCL's largest Domino/Notes customer on the planet we still don't have a solution.

For too long now, IBM (and now HCL) have been pointing the finger at Microsoft and Outlook, when it is well known that the problem is the Domino/Notes non-compliant implementation of the iCalendar standards that is the root cause of all the issues.

Outlook has nothing to do with this, the problems are 100% in Domino and Notes and the symptoms are exactly the same with Apple Mail, Gmail, and every other calendar/scheduling application on the market.

There are a small handful (two or three) of insignificant features that very few people ever use (much less even know about) . These will have to be sacrificed when HCL finally gets around to fully supporting the defacto and industry standards around recurring/repeating meetings.

Please, HCL...just do it. Remove those non-standards compliant repeating meeting options from the Notes Client and Domino in the next release. Don't succumb to the temptation to even make these features available to admins...just kill them. Please.

Calendar interoperability, both ways between Exchange and Domino, needs improvement all around, but especially with repeating meetings - in particular when repeating meetings are modified, and especially when the modification is for one event out of the series.  It seems that making almost any single event change on ND results in unpredictable outcomes for Exchange users.

Improvements are already planned for Domino V10. Just to note: its the server that will do the translation, not the client.
