Must Haves in the new Notes Client

There is much talk arountd a new 'thin' Notes client - moving away from Eclipse.  Most users only remember the Eclipse Client (they are not as old as me!) The Workspace and Righthand tool bor is to them, IBM Notes.  What ever chages are made these two have to persist.  We have Sametime IM and Meeting Romms on the right, The Connections PlugIn, Our IT Support outstanding actions -  personal to the user etc etc.  Without this eclipse frame (or a thin replacement) Notes will be a poorer place.

So my idea is not something new, but ensuring that we keep something good about the existing client!

Please, please implement the sidebar WITHOUT relying on Eclipse.  Eclipse makes Notes more finicky to anti-virus, slower to load, finicky about shortcuts, sensitive to context menus and bloated.  You desperately need to ditch Eclipse.

I have used Notes since 2.x (pre-Eclipse).  You certainly don't need to go back to those days--but Eclipse is not helping the client be modern or reliable.

I believe the point is that if Eclipse is removed in 10, we don't want the Basic client as it is today. That would be a step backwards. It would also be a hard sell to upgrade clients to 10 if an improved interface was not available until 11. I am not a defender of Eclipse as I believe it made first level support more complex than it should be.

Agree to the previous commenter. From my point of view, R11 should not be based on Eclipse anymore.

If you follow OpenNTF Releases feed, they already are actively working on tools intended to replace proprietary Designer client. And Admin client never was based on Eclipse at all.

So I believe Notes R11 will be based on NodeJS/Electron. And, as such, possibly also will be multi-platform again, some day.

Not sure what you are suggesting here, other than keeping Eclipse!?
