For security purposes. If this feature exists I can't find it. It should be possible to encrypt multi-user databases while they are at rest on the server. We can encrypt the backups of a database and we can encrypt the traffic to/from the database. We can also encrypt a local copy of a database. But it doesn't seem as though we can encrypt a database on a server and allow multiple users to access that database.
A database on the server is local to the perspective of the server. Encrypting it while on the server encrypts with the server's ID on the server's storage.
The feature you're looking for is already available.

Unless I am reading it incorrectly, existing database encryption applies to locally stored databases, not to databases stored on a server and accessed by multiple users.
