Backup and Resore: Ability to restore the database outside the Data Directory

In the documentation https://help.hcltechsw.com/domino/12.0.0/admin/admn_restoringdatabases.html it is said that the Restore path should be in Data directory. Looking into consideration to use path outside the Data.

I've tried that, the error is "File cannot be created." We are also not able to place backup files on the other drive using directory links for the same reason. We ARE able to place backups on the other drive by just specifying the path" E:\Restore. However, while Domino backup can put files there, it cannot restore databases to that location.

Ah, ok… you can donthat already now by creating a directory link in the data directory. You can create a domino directory link from your admin client / files panel

We have very large databases and do not have enough room to restore these databases to the same drive. This is why we backup to a different drive. We would like to restore databases to the same drive where the backups are placed by Domino Backup.

Restoring inside the data directory only is implemented by design.
Domino backup takes care the database is restored with replication disabled. You can also change the replica ID.

In contrast there are good reasons to only restore databases into the data directory, the Domino server is controlling. It is not only important for DAOS enabled databases.

And it is also important for the recovery process, that the database is stored inside the data directory.

All databases including the recovered databases really belong into the data directory.

As Thomas asked already , I also would be very interested to see the use case for this request.

Can you please explain why you want to do that?
