Determine latest attachment file

I would like to be able to determine whether the file attached to the mail is the latest version.

There are lots of reply and forward, and the latest version can not be found immediately.

If I try to open an old file , I would like to be warned and to be able to fly to the mail with the latest version attached.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the potential applications of AI in managing email communications. It is indeed an intriguing idea, and based on current technological advancements, there are certain aspects of your proposal that AI could feasibly handle even now.

Firstly, AI technology has made significant strides in the ability to summarize and synthesize information from various texts, including email threads. By leveraging natural language processing (NLP) algorithms, AI can efficiently condense long email chains into succinct summaries, capturing the primary discussions and crucial points. This can greatly enhance productivity, allowing users to grasp the essence of lengthy discussions without having to manually sift through each email.

Secondly, concerning the capability of AI to identify the latest version of a file in a mail thread, there is potential for this to be within reach as well. AI systems can be trained to recognize patterns and changes in documents attached in email threads. By analyzing timestamps, file names, and content modifications, AI could potentially ascertain which attachment is the most recent or relevant version. This function would significantly streamline document management processes, reducing the confusion and errors that often accompany manual handling.

In conclusion, the scenarios you have outlined are not only feasible but are already in varying stages of implementation in some AI systems. These technologies continue to evolve, promising even more sophisticated capabilities in the future. Using REST APIs it's already possible to add action buttons to your mail template to call an AI engine to determine the latest file attachment in the thread.

The date and time of saving the file, that of sending or receiving e-mails, the title of the e-mail are also necessary for judgment.

What about listing files of similar names and choosing it by the user?

For attachments in emails, how can a system like IBM Notes/Domino identify the most recent file version? The file name is not a good indicator.

Maybe instead of sending files by mail you should be using a file repository like IBM Connections?
