Here is a very cool old tip from the times of Notes 6(!):
# Drag and drop between window tabs — Say you have a file attachment in a received mail, and now you’re creating a new mail you want to include that file. So what do you do? Open the mail containing the attachment, drag it up to the tab for the new mail, hold it there a second until Notes switches to that mail, and then drag ‘n’ drop the attachment into the text.
The workaround is to highlighting the attachment rather than just click select the attachment. That is, take your cursor, click and hold to one side of the attachment and drag over the attachment to highlight the attachment (wish I could embed an image). Then you can CTRL-C to copy just the attachment.
But, I agree with your idea. You should just be able to right-click on an attachment and copy.
